Ivan Sergeyev was the first to graduate from the ICEF bachelor’s programme in 2001. Now with 15 years of work experience, he has had the chance to try his hand at a lot of different endeavours. He’s worked for western investment banks, served as a managing director for the online clothing and footwear store LaModa, and been an entrepreneur. Ivan is now one of the founders of the children’s clothing manufacturer Bambinizon. Below, Ivan tells the ICEF news service about his time as an ICEF student, and he discusses his current career and plans for the future.

Over the last five years, hummus and falafel have made their way onto the menu of most restaurants in the centre of Moscow, and food trucks have had much better luck selling Middle Eastern dishes than warm Russian pirogies. TED is a conference focused on spreading unique and groundbreaking ideas. The lecture topics are varied, including science, art, design, politics, culture, business, global issues, technology, and entertainment. The TEDx project helps people in different countries, cities, universities and communities organize independent conferences in a TED style. Anastasia Polozova, graduate of the programme in Global Business has initiated the organization of a similar event in Nizhny Novgorod.  

Anna Sokolova, who completed her PhD at the HSE Doctoral School of Economics and is an instructor in the Department of Theoretical Economics, has been offered a position as an Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, demonstrating the high demand for graduates of HSE doctoral programmes on the international academic job market.

Anna Zotova, a recent graduate of the Master’s programme in Global Business at HSE Nizhny Novgorod, spent the second year of her studies in Austria where she has undertaken several internships, including her current one at Tannpapier, an international company that manufactures paper for cigarettes. The company has nine offices around the world, as well as a plant in Pskov, Russia.

A career in the aviation industry is something many people dream about, but to become a manager in the field, you have to be disciplined and fearless. No one understands this better than HSE alumna Maria Sharavina, who is currently the head of the press service at Vnukovo Airport. HSE graduate Ilya Flaks’ company Fibrum began selling the Fibrum Pro virtual reality headset and its accompanying software in 2015, and both have since become well known throughout the world. Sergey Shershakov is 2012 graduate of the HSE master’s programme in System and Software Engineering, lecturer of a course in Data Algorithms and Structures, a researcher at the Laboratory of Process-Aware Information Systems (PAIS Lab), and participant of the Young Faculty Support Programme in the Category ‘New Researchers’. Sergey told us what Process Mining is, how to keep your knowledge up-to-date without working in the industry, and why HSE graduates don’t have to ‘forget everything they’ve been taught’.

The Alumni Centre has published a study tracking graduate entrepreneurial activities. The study is ongoing, and any HSE graduate with their own business can participate.
