On October 16, Roll Hall was the scene of the annual meeting of HSE graduates for the HSE Alumni Awards ceremony.

The Public Charger project developed by HSE MIEM graduate Alexei Rolich has been selected as one of the winners in the Start programme developed by the Foundation for the Support of Small Businesses in Science and Technology. The programme focuses on researchers who want to turn their ideas into a sustainable business. Rolich will receive a 2 million rouble grant for the first stage of development of his project.

On October 10, a bench donated to the city by alumni of the Higher School of Economics was placed near the building at 22 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa. Graduates collected the money for the bench's installation in just one week. The bench's installation was also an occasion to discuss how students and alumni can participate in the city's development.

At the HSE campus in Nizhny Novgorod, Svetlana Bryzgalova recently gave a public lecture on ‘Pricing Theories in Various Classes of Financial Assets’ as part of the Second International Conference on Econometrics.

Polina Polunina, a 2012 graduate of HSE’s undergraduate programme in Mathematics, took second place at the Summer Alphathon — a global competition in which students and recent graduates from leading universities create financial and mathematical models. The competition was held with the support of WorldQuant, an investment company.

The second cycle in the joint FIFA/HSE professional training programme in Sports Management is open for enrollment through October 5. The training is conducted in Russian and involves creating real projects in the sports industry. Denis Nikiforov, a first cycle graduate, talks about what they offer.

According to the work of HSE alumna Alisa Simonenko, the founder of the Reforma project, the connection is direct. Simonenko first created a pest extermination company before realising how she could help people find the source of their personal happiness. HSE Day, which is one of the university’s biggest events that took place on September 9 this year, featured the Reforma Higher School of Fitness.

On 15th September theInternational College of Economics and Finance ICEF held its Graduation ceremony at the British Ambassador’s residence in Moscow for the 15th year in a row. At the ceremony, students were awarded their diplomas for the Double Degree programmes run jointly by ICEF and the London School of Economics.  

Kirill Pogorelskiy, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Warwick University, UK, starting August 2015. Completed his Master's in Applied Mathematics and Information Technology, specialising in Mathematical Modelling in 2009 and began a PhD in Social Sciences at Caltech, USA, which he finished this year. In an interview Kirill talked about teaching at HSE, his academic interests and doing a PhD at a top American university.
