On July 1, more than 1,500 newly qualified bachelor’s and master’s graduates of HSE University-St Petersburg celebrated with their mentors at the campus’s traditional joint graduation ceremony. The event was an especially major personal event for one graduate, who received a marriage proposal during the ceremony.

This academic year, HSE University launched the first online master's programme ‘Master of Computer Vision’ supervised by Professor Andrey Savchenko. Alexander Rassadin, graduate of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science (HSE Nizhny Novgorod) and active participant of many CV projects, is delivering the course ‘Deep Learning for Computer Vision’ as part of the curriculum for this new programme. Alexander told us how he once wrote an algorithm for robot movement, the moment he realized what his dream job was and why analyzing sports games is more interesting than predicting a tsunami.

In September, the new HSE online master’s programme in Business Analytics launched on Coursera. Its educational content is close to the practice-oriented on-site HSE master’s programme in Corporate Finance. Olga Shikhantsova is a Bachelor’s graduate from the Faculty of Economic Studies (FES) and a Master with a degree in Financial Economics, ICEF. HSE Alums Take Home Prizes in Two International Data Competitions
Ekaterina Melianova and Artem Volgin, both graduates of the Master’s Programme Applied Statistics with Network Analysis, took second place in two CDP competitions: the Unlocking Climate Solutions Kaggle Competition and the COVID-19 Symptom Data Challenge. In the coronavirus-related data competition, the HSE graduates outperformed professors and PhD students of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the University of Washington, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and other foreign universities.
