Olga Shikhantsova is a Bachelor’s graduate from the Faculty of Economic Studies (FES) and a Master with a degree in Financial Economics, ICEF. In the early spring of 2021, she joined the SpeedInvest venture capital fund as a Principal with a focus on seeding Fintech. In May, Olga was included on the Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in the Finance and Investment category. In this interview with the HSE News Portal, Olga speaks about her work in the venture capital industry, time management, management philosophy and her affection for HSE University.

In autumn 2021, the HSE Banking Institute will launch a new online master’s programme, Master of Finance, on Coursera. The educational content is based on HSE’s Financial Analyst master’s programme. Sergey Trofimov, a graduate of the programme, spoke about its benefits and the competencies required of financial analysts.

At their theses defence, Davit Meliksetyan and Alexei Baskakov presented their studies on ‘Start-Up as a Thesis’ about creating one’s own business projects. The HSE News Service talked to the graduates about the topic of their theses, and their relevance and potential for the future.

Strategic Corporate Finance Master’s Programme alumnus Edoardo Alberti (’18) currently works in Brussels, a major energy company. He spoke with HSE News Service about how his studies at HSE University prepared him for a career right after graduation.

There are quite a few HSE graduates among HSE’s faculty. Four employees of the HSE Innovations Management Department are former and current students of the Department’s Master’s programme in ‘Corporate Research, Development and Innovation Management’. HSE News Service spoke with them to find out why they are working at their alma mater, what teaching means to them, and what they like about their students.

Ekaterina Melianova and Artem Volgin, both graduates of the Master’s Programme Applied Statistics with Network Analysis, took second place in two CDP competitions: the Unlocking Climate Solutions Kaggle Competition and the COVID-19 Symptom Data Challenge. In the coronavirus-related data competition, the HSE graduates outperformed professors and PhD students of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the University of Washington, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and other foreign universities.

During her time at HSE University, alumna Anna Budnikova (MA, Prototyping Future Cities, 2019) developed an innovative project called Mycokarst under the supervision of leading Shukhov Lab expert Elena Mitrofanova. The project’s technology involves using fungal spores to repair karst sinkholes in urban environments. Now Budnikova’s innovation is patented.

On December 10, the Graduate School of Business held a large-scale meetup event for GSB professors, current students, alumni, corporate representatives, and anyone interested in the development of business education. Guests of ‘GSB Meetup: Welcome to the Graduate School of Business’ learned what qualities and competencies a modern manager needs, what is new at the HSE Graduate School of Business, and what the future holds for the School.

As a student of the first cohort of the HSE Master of Data Science online programme, Alexey Babenkov not only gained new knowledge but also used that knowledge to find a new job.  He told HSE News Service how his online studies are organised, described the advantages of remote learning and explained which courses are especially useful.

The HSE Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) and Yandex held the Online Final of the IDAO-2020 International Data Analysis Olympiad, which took place for the third time. The task for the final round was provided by QIWI, the platinum partner of the event. Sberbank also became a competition partner.
