Fan Minlan, a 25-year-old from the coastal city of Zhangzhou in southeastern China, has recently graduated from the HSE Master’s Programme in Population and Development. In her interview with the HSE News Service, Fan Minlan speaks about her decision to enrol at HSE University, the challenges of speaking Russian, her career plans, and the love story that started with her studies.

Each story is unique, filled with ambition, perseverance, and meaningful change. Today, we are excited to share the story of Giovanny Simon Machado—a graduate of the Master’s programme 'Applied and Interdisciplinary History "Usable Pasts"'. Now, he is a professor at the Department of Social Work at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. This May, Prof. Machado came back to Russia as a participant of the HSE University–St Petersburg International Partners’ Week 2025. 

Once a month, the HSE campus on Pokrovska hosts meetings of the Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series. This is a joint initiative by the HSE Alumni Centre and the ‘University Open to the City’ project team, where alumni give short talks sharing their experiences in career development and professional fulfilment. Anyone is welcome to attend, regardless of where they study or work.

HSE Business Club organised a unique trip to China for the Russian student entrepreneurial community. As part of their business mission, participants held a series of meetings with representatives from leading universities, entrepreneurs, and top managers of both national and international companies. They explored the specific features of the Chinese business landscape and gained valuable insights into the workings of one of the world's key economic centres.

Polina Yurova studied integrated communications at HSE University, and later, when she cofounded the EGGSELLENT gastronomic project, she experienced firsthand the importance of bringing people together for everyone's benefit. In this interview with Success Builder, she talks about the evolution of her business, the value of mistakes as a source of unique experience, and the importance of always leaving room for chance events.
