After graduating from the Socioeconomic and Political Development of Modern Asia master’s programme, Vladimir Kirichenko set off for Indonesia. He is now at the London School of Public Relations in Jakarta, where he studies, teaches, conducts research, and works in an international office. Below he discusses his experience in Indonesia, as well as prospects for the development of Russian and Indonesian ties in the field of education.

Elena Okorochenko, Managing Director of Asia-Pacific Ratings at S&P Global Ratings, is not only a graduate of HSE’s first class of students; she has also contributed to the formation of the university as a whole. In the latest edition of Success Builder, Elena tells us how she only changed companies twice throughout her entire career, as well as how she manages a regional S&P Global division, shares her colleagues’ love for Asian cuisine, and never finds herself in a traffic jam in Singapore because they just don’t exist.

In 2017, Dilara Khannanova and Sofia Petrichenko, HSE graduates, created a ‘Gogol de Paris’ association in Paris, which popularizes not only Gogol’s writing, but also Russian cuisine with its feast traditions. The project authors spoke to the HSE News Service about ‘Gogol’, Gogol, the uniting power of Russian cuisine, and charity.

Ivan Sergeyev was the first to graduate from the ICEF bachelor’s programme in 2001. Now with 15 years of work experience, he has had the chance to try his hand at a lot of different endeavours. He’s worked for western investment banks, served as a managing director for the online clothing and footwear store LaModa, and been an entrepreneur. Ivan is now one of the founders of the children’s clothing manufacturer Bambinizon. Below, Ivan tells the ICEF news service about his time as an ICEF student, and he discusses his current career and plans for the future.

TED is a conference focused on spreading unique and groundbreaking ideas. The lecture topics are varied, including science, art, design, politics, culture, business, global issues, technology, and entertainment. The TEDx project helps people in different countries, cities, universities and communities organize independent conferences in a TED style. Anastasia Polozova, graduate of the programme in Global Business has initiated the organization of a similar event in Nizhny Novgorod.  

HSE graduate Mikael Yan and his company are part of the world’s largest startup accelerator, 500 Startups. In an interview with Success Builder, Mikael talks about the benefits of chat robots, how to stay positive when talking with investors, and how he became part of 500 Startups after getting a flat tire on a San Francisco highway.

In June 2014, a law was passed that requires participants of the housing and utilities market, including management companies and homeowner associations, to move all of their data to the Government Services Portal (www.gosuslugi.ru). Virtually overnight, this created an enormous market for IT companies capable of helping resolve issues associated with automating the transfer. The company Telecom-Project, which was founded by HSE graduate Evgeny Tsaplin, is currently a leader in this market.

In 2015 Alexey Bufetov graduated from HSE Doctoral School of Mathematics, and is now working at MIT. He has talked to HSE News Site about his research and his career as a mathematician.

When starting your own business, it’s often important to do things yourself at first. Sooner or later you’ll reach a point when everything starts working without your help. In the latest edition of Success Builder, HSE alumnus Alexander Braylovskiy, the founder of the cafe chain Receptor, discusses how to combine business informatics with Feng Shui, how to learn from your mistakes, how to write your own music, and how to remotely manage a chain of cafes with the help of an effective ERP system that he developed himself.

Vladimir Mukharlyamov graduated from ICEF in 2008, before completing an MA at the London School of Economics, and a PhD at Harvard University. In spring 2016, Vladimir defended his PhD thesis at Harvard, and in August he takes up his post as professor in finance at Georgetown University.
