HSE graduate Eduard Sosnin has recently taken office as Mayor of Perm, a city with a population of one million and tremendous industrial potential. In this interview with Success Builder, he shares how the university played a pivotal role in helping him establish a successful business, his reasons for transitioning from business to civil service, and the primary objectives that must be addressed by the head of administration in a major metropolis.

On August 22, the deputies of the Perm City Duma elected the new head of the city: Eduard Sosnin, HSE graduate and Minister for Economic Development and Investment of the Perm Region.

On July 5^th, at HSE University’s Centre of Cultures, the first graduates of the Bachelor’s programme in Chemistry were awarded their diplomas. The programme was created in 2019 with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Studying at the new faculty, the young researchers have achieved impressive scientific results, with 21 graduates publishing 46 co-authored articles in international scientific journals.

Financial Technologies and Data Analysis (FinTech), a joint Master’s programme from HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science and Sberbank, will have its fifth graduation this summer. The programme opened in 2017 and has become a major educational project for both the university and Sberbank. On February 5, the finals and award ceremony of the VK Cup ‘22/23 IT championship took place. The competition comprised two qualifying stages and one final stage. There were more than 5,000 applications for the qualifying stages, with a total of 80 participants making it to the finals.

Anatoly Potashov graduated from HSE ICEF in 2014. Today, he is a guest lecturer at HSE University and the author of the ‘Project and Venture Financing’ and ‘Alternative Investments’ courses. In his interview, Anatoly speaks about how Harvard Business School's online course inspired him to record an online course for HSE's Master of Finance programme and about working on funding for multi-billion-dollar projects.

Psychologists Sergey Andreev and Egor Surdeykin are both graduates of HSE University. Together with other graduates of the university, they created a project to provide supplementary education for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The programme for middle- and high-school students covers such subjects as computer science, programming, and mathematics.

The first graduation ceremony for the joint HSE University and Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Bachelor’s Programme in Economics took place in Vladivostok. 43 students were each awarded two diplomas. The programme, launched at the School of Economics and Management of Far Eastern Federal University in 2018, gives students the opportunity to master Russia's strongest programme and earn a diploma from HSE University without leaving the Far East. HSE University currently offers 11 double degree programmes at undergraduate and graduate level with nine Russian universities.

The class of 2022 faced the difficulties of the pandemic, moving to the new campus in Pokrovka, and completing their studies in a difficult geopolitical climate. This year's graduation ceremony was held at HSE University itself, allowing the graduates to celebrate their achievements together with their families, whose support was praised by HSE Rector, Nikita Anisimov, as well as hear praise from other members of the HSE management team.
