The HSE Business Incubator took 1^st place in the 2019-2020 UBI Global World Ranking of University-Linked Business Accelerators. An awards ceremony for the top ranked institutions was held at the World Incubation Summit in Doha, Qatar on November 6.

Graduates of HSE University’s International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) traditionally receive their degrees against a backdrop of grand fireplaces, an oak staircase, and a balcony overlooking the Kremlin. This is because the ICEF holds its commencement ceremony at the British ambassador’s residence on the Sofiyskaya Embankment. And this is not by accident. Graduates of the ICEF’s bachelor’s programme receive two degrees from HSE and the University of London, respectively, while graduates of the ICEF’s Master’s Programme in ‘Financial Economics’ receive a degree from HSE and the London School of Economics. This year marked the ICEF’s 19^th commencement ceremony.

Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Oreshkin, who earned his Bachelor’s in economics in 2002 and his Master’s in economics in 2004 from HSE University, spoke to students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences about economic growth in Russia and what he learned at HSE University.

On July 4, HSE University graduates celebrated their graduation with Little Big, a vibrant punk rave band, - this was the University’s gift to the students. The concert drew students, graduates from previous years, and HSE University staff: over 5,000 people attended the event.

How HSE Graduation Has Changed over the Years

HSE graduates have launched a programme that will annually award winners of the Student Research Paper Competition in those subject areas in which the university is an international leader.

The annual reception for outstanding HSE alumni took place on December 7 at Saltykovy-Chertkovy House. The jury awarded alumni in six nominations.

HSE Alumni Awards are given annually to outstanding HSE graduates in several categories. This year, HSE will recognize both graduates who have achieved professional success in business and civil service, and those who have contributed to the popularization of sports, media industry or development of charitable and socially important projects.

The theme of this year’s HSE graduation party, which was held at Moscow’s Izvestia Hall, was ‘Bond’. Party-goers enjoyed espionage contests, British humor and, of course, plenty of music.

A new mentoring programme has kicked off at HSE that gives students the opportunity to choose an HSE graduate to be their ‘sensei’. These can be people who have already evolved professionally in their field or who have implemented a business idea similar to that of their mentees. This programme continues HSE’s long tradition of senior students helping their younger peers. Below are several stories recalling successful university mentoring at HSE.
